Out Of Place? Black Bird

i like to watch the birds out my living room window, admiering the usual come and go but this one i haven't seen around before. its a medium sized bird a little bigger than a pigeon i'd say, dark in color, a whit band across the the back of its head and a rather short yellow beak .... if you have any clues HELP !
