These guidelines apply to all forums in the Birding BC website where members can post content. This includes, but is not limited to, discussions, comments, guides, product reviews, photos, artwork, and videos.

When providing feedback, posting information, or discussing a topic, whether it’s negative or positive, please make sure you are being relevant, constructive and polite.

Please note that Administrators/Moderators reserve the right to change/edit/delete/move/merge any content at any time if they feel it is inappropriate, abusive, or incorrectly categorized.

General Rules

Do not do any of the following:
  • Flame or insult other members
  • Post personally identifiable information (i.e. name, address, email, phone number, etc.) unless there is a specific reason to do so. Common exceptions are photo credit, event contact info, etc.
  • Hijack or derail a thread's topic
  • Post spam or Re-post Closed, Modified, Deleted Content
  • Repetitively post in the incorrect forum
  • Openly argue with a moderator, use the PM system
  • Shamming
  • Personal Attacks (direct or inferred).
  • Bullying
Off-Limit Topics/Replies

Do not post any topics/replies containing the following:
  • Porn, inappropriate or offensive content, pirated software or leaked content or anything else not safe for work
  • Threats of violence or harassment, even as a joke
  • Posted copyright material such as photos where you do not have permission
  • Soliciting, begging, auctioning, raffling, selling, advertising, referrals (unless in the Buy/Sell or Services forums)
  • Racism, discrimination
  • Abusive language, including swearing
  • Religious, political, and other “prone to huge arguments” threads
Enforcement

The rules will be enforced in a variety of ways, including, but not limited to:
  • Asking member nicely to knock it off
  • Asking member less nicely
  • Temporary or permanent suspension of accounts
  • Correction or removal of postings
  • Banning from the forums
No Backseat Moderating

Let the moderators do the moderating. Backseat moderating is when people who are not moderators try to enforce the forum rules. If you see a person breaking the rules, take advantage of the Report (!) button or simply ignore the offensive post(s) or thread.

Report Posts to Moderators

Should you observe a fellow Community member breaking these rules please report the post or item by clicking the Report (!) button located on every item, post, and review.

Moderation of Forum Groups

Individual forum areas may have rules that are in addition to the general forum rules and their own moderators to enforce them.

Repeated Offenders

Repeated offenders of the above rules and guidelines will be banned from the Birding BC Community. Any moderator has the ability to ban a user for violating the rules at their discretion.
