Tomorrow I will be celebrating my birthday by going to Reifel for the first time. (The 14th is my actual birthday but it will be snowy and rainy most likely). What areas are birdiest? What species should I look out for at this time of year?

You are so lucky!! I wish I was going. Bohemian waxwings should be around, or on Alaksen drive. Also the ponds if they are not frozen should provide good viewing of waterfowl and some wintering shorebirds. Inner trails produce songbirds.

Happy birthday! Reifel has Bohemian Waxwings down the centre dyke the road to Alaksen won't be open tomorrow unfortunately. Keep your eyes out for a bittern or swamp sparrow by the blue tower. Maybe you will also see an Owl or two. Look in the front of the park for the roosting Night-herons.

Thanks everyone! Reifel is what I imagine heaven would look like lol. I had no luck with the waxwings but i I did find the saw whet owl. When is the road to Alaksen open to the public? I want to try for them again this month. I will post some photos. In a separate thread.

Hey yesterday Doug Bamford had 30 down the century dyke at Reifel but my other friend Jeremiah only had 1 so the flock must have moved during your visit unfortunately. Glad you had a good day any Reifel. Alaksen is open Monday to Friday 8am-4pm.
