Hummingbirds show emotion when blinking.

You can communicate with them by slowly blinking and they will respond.

I had a young Rufous Hummingbird female befriend me, and she would land

close to me each time I stepped outside and sat in my chair.

I would blink slowly and she would do the same. You could feel the love!

Here she is, I managed to get a photo of her with a bridge camera.

Where she is standing is only six inches off the ground, as it was the closest perch for her.
Unusual perch for a hummingbird!

After she left for migration in late August, I kept my eye out in the spring to see if she would come back, but there was no show at least to what I could tell.

Awesome Rob. I agree you can get close to them in your yard. I have a few that I am close to as well especially one male. You should try to see if you can get that female to perch on your hand as the guy in the video did if she returns.

Glad you guys liked the video. It's pretty amazing, wish it were me.

Cheers,
Mel

I have a little Anna's female that has been around for quite awhile and on one occasion she did sit on my finger for a few seconds and another time she let me pet her while she was on the feeder. Lately there are so many around the feeders it is really very hard to get near her without the others chasing her away from the feeders. There are a couple of males that are very possessive of the feeders and are constantly on guard. They are such a delightful little bird but they can also be very aggressive.
