In the Peace Arch News, Christian Sasse wrote a letter indicating that he saw a Great Blue Heron being chased by a dog (after the owner had sicced the dog on the bird). Luckily he was there with his 600mm f/4 lens and captured the image of the dog chasing the Great Blue Heron. Needless to say that image drew the ire of quite a few nature lovers as well as mine.

This is somewhat of a pet peeve of mine since whenever I go to Green Timbers I see countless examples of ignorance in action. Hence the reason I wrote this rant in my own blog. Please feel free to share it with anyone that you wish to view it. It may teach people a healthy respect for nature.

I agree, earlier this year I witnessed someone sic their dog on a pair of killdeer at Iona. I just don't understand people sometimes. Why go to a park if you don't enjoy the inhabitants?

I enjoyed checking out your blog Hugo :)

It's not the dogs fault, it's the owners completely.
Too bad this type of thing is never enforced.

Definitely...it's the owner and not the dog. The dog is only doing what comes "naturally". Canid prey drive is strong. It's the irresponsible owner that I'm angry at.

Thanks for looking at the blog, Paul. Will throw up yours on my "links".

That is sad.
The first time I saw a Barred Owl was at Stanley Park. I stayed a distance away to watch, but someone brought their dog (on leash!) off the trail and let the dog go right up to the owl roost. The bird of course flew to another tree, and when the dog continued to follow him he had to leave the area.
