Need some help on this Birds ID.
Taken on Vancouver Island ,Metchosin area.
No other positions have been shot as the bird sat in the same place preening for 45 mins
Not the best shot as it was 150 feet away and weather was awful.
Size of the bird approx 16 inches..way bigger than a Merlin

I suppose all the Victoria birders are in Costa Rica or Aruba sipping Mai Tai's
on a beach and clicking in to see what interesting bird you had found (as you always do)! I mentioned to Brian there were Burrowing Owls in Aruba, so they rented a car and found 3 of them within 40 minutes of searching. They had been on his bucket list for years, so he was thrilled. I've been from Viaduct Flats to Cattle Point and all points in-between in the last 10 days and ran into only one couple with a scope at Panama Flats, 2 Mt Tolmie bin birders at Cattle Point and a tourist with a long lens at Swan Lake. Apparently, we are a City of fair-weather birders.
