Common Redpoll are back in Victoria (checked out 350 Oswego at 3pm. may have better luck in the morning.) they returned to the same block as last year. generally in the catkins of the birch along Superior, Michigan, Oswego.
Geoffrey (pronounced Joe-free) Newell had some great shots last year but the thread has been deleted.
On eBird at Whiffen Spit in Sooke and in Nanaimo as well.

A quick update from Jame's Bay ... I saw four Common Redpolls feeding in the birch trees outside my kitchen window on Douglas Street at Simcoe on March 14th 2018. My first sighting of this species in Victoria since moving here in 2006.

Thanks Rolf. I ran into a couple birders from Sooke who were in town looking for Redpoll, so they will be happy to read this!

Looks like a Pectoral Sandpiper to me..
