According to my Peterson's guide this is a rare duck, for these parts. This was spotted Saturday the 16th. I didn't realize what I had until I processed this one, and checked the ID. I forgot my guide that day.

I'm pretty sure it's not just a ring neck. You can't tell from this photo but it does have the tuft in the back and it is pure white down the side.

I'm afraid I have to disagree, this is a Ring-necked Duck for the following reasons: White outline on the base of the bill, a distinct white "ring" around its bill and a white "spur" on the front of the flanks followed by gray flanks. Tufteds have all white flanks and no white outline or ring around it's bill, what I should say is that it's very thin and not as distinct as on a Ring-necked. In the photo provided, I don't see a dangling tuft, I see a peaked crown, which ring-neckeds also possess. Sorry for the disappointment. Oh, and lastly, I see the chestnut coloured ring around the neck, absent on tufteds.
