Over the weekend in Kelowna, I relocated the Lesser Black-backed Gull at the Yacht Club, in a flock of gulls in the middle of the lake. A scope in now necessary for this bird. There was also a Pacific Loon nearby, at Stuart Park, which was the first in Kelowna in a few months. It was juvenile bird, so a different individual from the two adults that were seen back in November in Kelowna.
There have been lots of Northern Pintails around in Kelowna, the first push of spring migration, seen since last Thursday. A large population of about 10 were present at the Thompson Brook Marshes on Sunday. 9 newly arrived Killdeer were present at Thompson on Sunday as well.
Yesterday, I lucked into a Mew Gull at Thompson Brook Marsh, which surprisingly was the first of the winter in Kelowna. The long-staying birds at the Rutland McDonalds and the Kelowna Landfill were not detected this winter shockingly.
Good birding and take care!
