Hi,
I'm interested if California Quail are now in the Kamloops or South Thompson area? I live in Vernon and work for the railway. Over the years (since 1975) I've seen them expand their range from the central Okanagan to as far north as one mile north of Falkland.
Another question is has anyone else seen Chukar in the Okanagan? I used to see lots on my run west from Kamloops to Boston Bar. However one winter day last year in the Larkin Mill area I saw one hanging out with some quail but so far it's the only one I've seen.

chukar are somewhat common in the Okanogan around the cliffs surrounding Vaseux Lake, I've also seen them in Winter near Keremeos feeding with California Quail

I got some really nice shots of California quail while camping last year at Cathedral park. The bird had young next to her and she just sat completely still on a big rock while I took some pictures of her. She was still for something like ten minutes and I wondered if she had even seen a human before. Later in the week I saw another one by the side of my van and it didn't move either, so I guess that's just typical for the birds. This year I plan to forget camping and check out kelowna vacation rentals instead. I think I'm getting too old to rough it!
