all the Eurasian doves were eaten by the sharpshinned hawk by the middle of January- he visited my feeder near the end of Jan preying on the juncos but with almost 27 feet of snow he disappeared soon after - a kestrel showed up near the end March never seen here in the last 4 years and perched on the pileons along the shoreline, used by the kingfishers, looking down at the Barrows on the ocean who were in for the herring run - 2 harriers have appeared and been cruising the tidal flats, like in Richmond, and an immature golden eagle ''smuked'' one of the Canadian geese, he was easily 1 1/2X the size of the bald eagles who hovered about hoping to get some scraps finally we had some trumpeters who stayed for the month of April and the usual sandhills dropped down for a visit on their way to the tundra - no crossbills or pine siskins at all this year unlike past years, probably all killed off by the massive amount of logging and mining traffic since they usually are found ''gravelling''on the only highway in and out - finally a flock of about 20-30 bluebirds stayed for about a week in April on the tidal flats in Hyder flitting from driftwood stumps to small evergreens along the ocean shoreline
