Just wanted to drop a line here and say that yes, there are tonnes of keen birder up here in the northern region and yes, we have great birds up here. It's just that nobody uses this forum for some reason

Give me a shout if anyone wants to talk birding up north:)

Welcome Jessi!

We'd love to hear reports from up north as well as have northern birders join in. Northern BC is a great place for birding as well as for wildlife watching, lots going on up there I'm sure. Thanks for giving us a shout and I hope more northern birders drop by.

Cheers,

Kevin Slagboom

Thanks Kevin - I used to visit this board all the time a while ago... but I had to get a new account becuase I completely forgot my both my username and password:) I came back with a shorebird identification question, and I just thought I would start posting findings on this forum and hope some of the rest of the birders up here follow suit. I attempted to make my own forum once, but again, nobody used it

Because I started atlassing last year I keep much more detailed records of the birds I see - I used to only record the new species I saw but now I record everything.

I live in Northern BC as well and would love to see postings more specific to our area. Hope more people take part :)

I live in the Terrace area, and have been trying to identify some of the birds at our bird feeder with our 8 year old. While I've always liked birds and know the basics, there are some birds outside my window that I swear I've never seen. Some of them are birds that I don't believe I have seen since I was a kid. In Alberta.
So I'm looking forward to taking pictures and cross-referencing with other more knowledgeable birders!

If you have a smartphone or a tablet, there are good apps you can get that include the bird's songs etc. The best one I have is IBird Pro and I think it cost me $9.99 US. It is worth the cost. A friend sent me Peterson's Guide to North American Birds for Christmas. I was completely surprised and thrilled to get it.

Hello from Baldonnel, BC a small community of 200 just south of Fort St John. New to the area 5 years ago we finished our renovations and now watch the birds. With just a simple platform feeder, stocked with a variety of seeds and grains we have attracted a large array of different birds. Located right outside our kitchen window, the feeder provides constant entertainment during our kitchen time. We really enjoy the visitors and are committed to year around feeding.

Awesome! Good to have more northern bird-lovers on the site. :) There are a lot of incredible breeding birds in the Peace River region in the spring and summer, so I would recommend getting out a lot ( and in the right locations ) from about mid May to mid June - I was there this year and it was simply incredible. :P
