Hi all,

It's been 40 years since I've seen Western Tanagers in my Cherry tree. My sister noticed them starting Monday the 15th and made me aware Tuesday. The Cherry tree was very active with many birds all day long.

Nice to see them in large numbers again.

Are cherries ripe in lower mainland already? I live in the Carriboo and have at least 20 tanagers on my beef fat feeders they clean it out daily..Long winter no insects for them so they will go to suet.I have a friend who went though 45 suet blocks in one month..

Saw some today at Maplewood. Beautiful bird.

The cooler weather and low snowline seems to be keeping a lot of small birds down low.

Hi Lee,

Tree is an old gnarly Japanese Cherry tree (ornamental) with a Hawthorne tree and a Hazelnut tree close by and all are full of bugs. Hawthorne tree is in heavy bloom. Still one or two Tanagers here Thursday. Audubon warblers were abundant as well but have mostly moved through. It was a cold winter here and we did the suet as well.

Hmm ... helped build a cabin on McLeese lake back in 1972. Took the parts up on a flatbed on a long weekend. Cleared for the foundation in light snow and it was cold but in 3 days we had the roof papered and the doors locked when we left. Nice country Lee.

Hi Robert,

Beautiful indeed!

I was thinking the same thing. It's down right cold here right now.
