Today there was a family of Sharp-shinned Hawks - noisy fledged young and at least one parent in the tall trees close to Hyannis Trail on Mount Seymour in North Vancouver. The trail begins at the end of Hyannis Drive. The screaming young led us to the begging zone at the intersection of High School Route and Ridgeline Trail, mountain bike trails which run off Hyannis Trail. This was not a good photo opportunity as the young were high in the trees, but it was a most excellent listening opportunity. The parent sounds were occasional, the young sounds, constant. The birds could be glimpsed as they moved from tree to tree. Observers won't bother the birds as they are high, flight capable, and clearly not disturbed by the foot and bike traffic below. Most of the small birds were conspicuously quiet in this little zone.
