Everyone knows that the Peregrine Falcon is the fastest bird on Earth [in a dive] but what about horizontal speed? It turns out that the Gyrfalcon [145kph] is a faster pursuit flyer than the Peregrine [110kph] but the Gyr is followed closely by the Golden Eagle at 129kph!! The Goldie's speed surprised me! How can any bird that large fly so fast? ..source Wiki
