I got out around home quite a bit this weekend, a couple of trips to Maplewood, Whytecliff, Ambleside etc. but the only shots of note were the Black Oystercatchers i picked up at my "secret" spot in West Van where i often see Harlequin ducks.

Bonus bird was another Maplewood Spotted Towhee (actually shot last weekend but never posted).

A lovely series, Paul! A species I really miss up here! One feature of these birds that I always marvel at is their 'painted toenails' which we can see best in photo #3. I not a fetishist, believe me (as DT might say), but I do find the Oystercatcher a remarkable bird from top to bottom (despite the plainness in-between).

And a SPTO as a bonus? Now that's really a bonus for us up here this time of year!!

Cheers! :D
