The other day I observed a juvenile Sharp-shinned Hawk dive onto a small brush pile near a feeder where a mixed flock of House Sparrows and Golden-crowned Sparrows were feeding. They all scattered and the hawk proceeded to peer into and under the brush pile, occasionally climbing down off the pile to peek underneath. Eventually a bird flushed from under the pile and the hawk went right after it, following it into into a blackberry bush. I couldn't see the result but here are a few pictures.
