Asymmetric Green-winged Teal

This Teal has been present at Piper Spit for some months. At first I thought it had been injured. Now I think it's an anomaly. Its head markings look, to me, to be closer to a Common Teal. (BTW, I also have seen an intergrade GW-Common Teal there too.)

First up, the left side. The normal-appearing side.

Then, the right side. Kind of a mishmash.

I'd say it's injured, it looks like a large amount of feathers has been torn off the right wing leaving the speculum exposed. As for the head, it does have a bit more outlining around the face but again it is possible for a GWT to have that.

Nice series. Not sure about the reasons, but thanks for sharing.
