 Post subject: "Mud" Backs (or Heads)

There was a flock of these at Iona today (February 27th). About 10 birds, but 4 flew off when they decided I was too close. Those remaining started to swim away, but I was patient and eventually they returned, eventually coming closer than any I've encountered before. Unfortunately, they seemed to like sticking their heads into the mud at the bottom of the pond and not washing their faces afterwards. Still nice red eyes.
