A couple of NHOWs have been hanging around my favourite GGOW patch, in the mixed woodlands north of Edmonton. Getting these photographs was the result of a few hours of observing his hunting patterns (the owl plunged into a small snow-covered high grass patch), and an hour lying prone in the snow (yes, my boys were starting to sing jingle bells), and good luck.
The prairie falcon hunts pigeons (numbering in the 1000s) at the CN grain terminal in town. Two Gyrfalcons and an immature Goshawk also hunt there.
