HI, I am from Vancouver Island, and will be spending first 2 weeks of September in Osoyoos. Is there a web site, or information that can assist me in finding good birding in and about that area and the Okanagan?
much thanks
brian

I was there last year and had some success.
On the Lake there is a long finger/spit like campground that protrudes about half way into the lake, at its base is a small sanctuary that has a variety of different birds and a designated pathway.
Also, you will see lots and lots of Osprey fishing the lake.

We often are in the Oliver / Osoyoos area playing golf and birding. Our favourite area is the White Lake Road which you can find from downtown Oliver. It will take you through the protected grasslands area which are subtely beautiful.

Haynes Point Provincial Park which is a spit of land out into Osoyoos Lake near the town can be a great spot for birding.

Also a really nice spot is : go north from Osoyoos on Hwy 97 and turn right on Road 22. At the bridge there is an excellent path to the north that follows the irrigation canal. You can walk this for a long way. Also if you cross the bridge and turn left on Black Sage Road it will take you all the way to Oliver on a very scenic route.

Vaseaux Lake bird sanctuary is also in the area.

We'll be in the area for a week in early October and I'm looking forward to some great birding.

There is a banding station at Vaseax Lake (just north of the Provincial Park). A short visit there should put you in contact with a few knowledgeable local birders who will know what and where is good at this time of year.

Try the local tourist information places in either Oliver or Osoyoos for a copy of a booklet called "The Okanagan Valley Birding Trail " . It lists many birding hotspots of the Okanagan Valley with likely species - access and viewing notes. The above mentioned Vaseux banding station is well worth a visit. The entrance is unmarked but can be found just north of the wildlife viewing area at Vaseux .... watch for a gate through the fence.
