Welcome to the new Birding in BC site

Well, if you see this message, you've arrived at the new site!

What's new:

-Forums have a new 'integrated skin' with the rest of the site.
-Vancouver region has been updated to include more resources
-Links section has been updated to include more club links
-Skylark article has been updated (and enhanced)

Under the hood, there have been a lot of changes with a few more to come. This version of the site is actually a transition site as there is another version powered by a content management system that I will be working on next.

What does this all mean?
Well, there are a number of features I wish to add and the system I am looking at will allow me to do this in a more organized fashion. Also, I hope to invite some community members to write articles and the new system will facilitate this a bit better. This next version is a few months away at the very least (might be up to a year) but I will be working on it as time permits.


So, for this version of the site, I will be watching for and fixing any bugs that we find.

So nice to see the site up and running again. Missed it over the 2 days you were getting things organized. Thanks again for getting us birders together.

Might I add my own words of congratulations on the look of the new website? Well done. I like the photo stream idea, giving a changing look at some of those great photos in the database. I'm wondering how many hours are spent doing this -- seems like it could very well be a full time job! The efforts are greatly appreciated.

I would love this to be my full time job.

To get this version of the site done, I started in August and worked on it on and off as time permitted. I probably spend over 40 hours to do the new look plus setup the new hosting provider.

In this site release, I moved the site to a major internet hub to remove any connection problems that in the past have arisen from being in the island. (Backhoes and excavators seem to find the Telus connection to the island more frequently then I am comfortable.)

For me, building this community is fun to do and I really enjoy all the photos and birding reports as I don't have a lot of free time to go out birding.

Bird to live, live to bird.

Thanks for the great site. I have been reading for a while, finially
joined. I only just started out and have no flicker site but hope to
strive to have one. I have no photo experience but learning as I
go. Love to watch the birds and being home alot helps, I have found
many types the usual residents and a few pit stops by others. Lot's
of large birds fly over usually too high to catch but manage the odd one.
Hopefully I will learn to post a picture. Very much enjoy reading and seeing
the great photos posted by all.
