Hawaiian Crows have been extinct in the wild since 2002 but there has been a captive breeding program that is trying to preserve the species. Finally, this November these birds will be returned to the wild on the Big Island of Hawaii.

This is a story that I hope will have a happy ending with the reestablishment of this native species. A previous attempt before the species completely dissapeared in the wild failed in the 1990's.

A fun fact the Hawaiian Crow is only one of two crow species that use tools to forage for food.
