Hey everyone,

Like last year, me and my family are taking a trip to the coast again in late April. I'm looking forward to the great birding opportunities I'll have. We're staying in a house right on the beach on Galiano Island. I've never been to the Gulf Islands before (except for when I was little) and I don't know what to expect when it comes to birds. Are there any really good birding places on Galiano Island? Any cool species I may see in late April?

Thanks for any help! :D
Matt

I lived on Galiano for about 24 years and did quite a bit of birding. Late April should be good. So here are a few of my favourite spots : The Bluffs where you can watch eagles soaring over Active Pass way below you. Sometimes they'll ride an updraft right up by the top of the Bluffs and that can be very cool.

Go to the Woodstone Country Inn ( I'm the ex owner ) and walk down the trail to the bird blind ( I built it ! ) It looks over a small marsh and can be a great spot to sit and wait for birds.

Also the Valley in front of the Woodstone can be good. Walk from the Woodstone entrance road down the road beside the farm.

A great spot for a walk and some birding is Gray Peninsula at Montague Harbour. Another place worth visiting is Bellhouse Park at the entrance to Active Pass.

Anyway, enjoy Galiano. It's a beautiful part of the world.
