The VIRL (Vancouver Island) offers a lot of free digital material to it's members. Movies (some birding movies included), audio books, digital books, and popular magazines in digital format. It's a bit involved to get set up, but I noticed that both the Audubon magazine and the BirdWatching magazine that I have previously paid for are free through my public library.

I'm sure that other public libraries offer magazines when you download the free Zinio App from their section offering digital material. They are compatible with almost every conceivable Android, computer, and Apple device.
