Another idea I came up with since my feeders in Courtenay are always getting rained on. Since the birds are already coming to my feeders and many birds enjoy feeding off the ground, I put a sheet of parchment paper down with four rocks to hold it and sprinkle fresh seeds on it each day. The birds come to it and stop eating the wet old seeds that cover my veranda floor. (I know I must get out there and clean it up, but sometimes life gets in the way). Here is a photo:
