Is this Gadwall a female or juvenile? It seemed smaller than the others and was constantly picked on by the adult males. It also wasn't paired up like the other birds. I am not sure but I think the wings seem to contain a bit more black and red than a typical female.

There's also a "female" bufflehead at this pond who constantly swims around partly sunken in. I was told this might be a type of courtship behaviour although there are no males around (about 3-4 other females here). The white cheek patch seems to be slightly larger than the other birds.
