My sister got the following pictures just off the west dyke in Richmond yesterday. What throws us off is the ring IN the eye (not colouring AROUND the eye). Juvenile Dusky Flycatcher?

Update: Bushtit, Brown Crowned variety?

Hi Alwyn,

This is a Bushtit. The pale eye indicates a female.

Good Birding,

Excellent, thanks Josh: looks like we (belatedly and in parallel!) came to the right conclusion!

Thanks for the compliments guys: my sister really appreciates it. She is from South Africa and has been visiting with us for the past three weeks. Over and above the great pleasure of having her with us, she has also been showing me up in terms of spotting and photographing the local birds!

Life is good.
