We don't get many shorebirds in Squamish so am no good in shorebird identification and I am wondering if any one can tell me if this is a Long-billed or a Short-billed Dowitcher - I'm thinking Long-billed.

Hi Chris,

This is a long-billed dowitcher note the lack of spots on the flanks.

Best way to tell is by call of course but it's not always possible so other field marks are beneficial. Here is a really helpful tool to help distinguish between dowitcher species:
