As Rachel Maddow so aptly put it yesterday: "nobody knows how to drill this deep in the ocean safely, nobody".
The same techniques to fix blowouts have been in effect for decades and none have ever worked other than relief drilling. No new science, no new ideas. BUT of course ocean wells TWICE as deep as this one have received approval from the US Govt. And Guy is right...we simply have to end or seriously reduce our dependency on oil.
All so depressing.
