Planning to spend a day in the Crescent Beach area this weekend. I’ve been to Blackie Spit once many years ago and have been keen to return since. Does anyone have any stories or experiences or suggestions for must sees at Blackie Spit? Thank you!

Hi,

Right now on the pier you should be able to get pretty close looks at Red-necked Grebes and Common Loons in breeding plumage.

I believe the Purple Martins are returning to the nesting boxes near the SE corner now as well.

I was there a couple days ago and there were many Yellowlegs but none of the other large shorebirds that hang out there in the winter (Godwits, Curlew) - maybe they have moved on for the season.

Have fun.
