On June 6, 2014 I shall be making an overnight stop in Vancouver before connecting to a Bella Bella flight next morning. I expect to stay at a motel near the airport. I would like to do some bird photography that afternoon.

Are there any birding groups or individual birders who have periodic walks around Reifel Island or Boundary Bay (I'm thinking of something like a local birding chapter)?

Reifel Migratory bird sanctuary probably you best bet (http://www.reifelbirdsanctuary.com) for afternoon birding. By June, spring migration is nearly complete and most birds will be at their summer breading locations. Reifel will likely have more variety over boundary bay at this time of year. If you can't find a birder to join you, still worth a visit as trails are well marked and easy to navigate around. You may need to rent a car to get there.

Iona Island is probably only a 5-10 minute drive/cab ride from the airport and is a great location as well...

What drives me nuts is my commute between Richmond and White Rock I see hawks all the time on the lamp standards along the #99. Wish I could just pull over (safely) get out and take some photos.
