Seen today at Clover Point Victoria feeding with Oystercatchers, Black Turnstones and European Starlings. I am pretty sure it is a Savannah Sparrow but I have never known them to feed at the shore, I thought they were seed eaters??

Hi Dennis,

Yes, looks like a Savannah Sparrow. They are fairly common along the Victoria waterfront in Fall migration and some overwinter here along the shores and in the low fields. They mainly eat bugs so that is probably what they are foraging on. All sorts of bugs in the tall grasses and along the sort, including sand fleas.
