Snowy Egret at Cowichan Estuary. My first time responding to a rare bird alert and I'm glad I did. A beautiful bird and fascinating to watch.

A couple of hours at my sister-in-law's garden yielded Black-headed (M + F) and Evening (F) Grossbeaks, American Goldfinches (M + F) and Brown-headed Cowbird (M). Very different from the parade of woodpeckers at our feeders.

My first Spotted Sandpiper. I think it crossed over the river to shout at me from a perch.

A pair of Steller's Jays under the bird feeder. I had never noticed the beautiful checkerboard pattern on the wings before.

Amazing shots of the cormorant swallowing an impossibly big fish, Pat.
So far this is the best footage I have of an osprey fishing. It flew way off to catch the fish, but at least I did manage to get the splash.

I found these two sandpipers on the beach next to the lagoon at Englishman River Estuary. It seemed an odd location for them.

This visit to French Creek was the first time I saw a Semipalmated Plover. Now I see them all the time.
